Janieta Eyre

Janieta Eyre, was born in London and moved very young to Toronto, Canada. She graduated in philosophy at the University of Toronto, she studied journalism at Ryerson Polytechnic University and photography at the Ontario College of Art and Design. She quickly gained the attention of the contemporary art world for his double self-portraits, eccentric portraits of herself as one of a pair of twins.

The images show Janieta Eyre in single, double and triple performances with costumes and settings recalling historical periods and fantasy environments. Many of her photographs explore motherhood, identity, and sibling relationships, especially those of identical twins. Janieta Eyre has exhibited in Italy, Germany, Iceland, the United States and across Canada and has been invited to participate in the Biennale Kwanju in South Korea. She has been mentioned in several recent publications, including Hive Magazine, Collection Edge and Faking la morte and she won a “lustro" award for Best Digital Imagery by Horizon Zero. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Canadian Museum of Contemporary Photography (Ottawa), Microsoft (New York), and the National Gallery of Iceland (Reykjavik).
